John Mitchell, Photographer
 |
Hi! My name is John Mitchell and this is my blog. If you are a client or a potential client, feel free to email me or contact me through my
studio website, or click here.
Photography has been a passion of mine since I bought my first film SLR camera from a pawn shop, shortly after my 12th birthday. I went on to study Photography in school (University of Missouri,
Kansas City) and be mentored by some great photographers. It is such a blessing to be able to make a living doing what I love!
This blog will mostly feature my professional life & images, I also plan on throwing in notes & images from my personal life. I'm a better photographer than I am a writer, so expect a lot more photos than words :-) Feel free to leave comments so that I can get to know you
while you get to know me!
Oh yeah, if you are a professional photographer and would like to connect, please email me as well!

One of my friends brought his dog Bently to my BBQ last weekend

Okay, this is going to be a little different than most of my posts. Tonight I had the unthinkable occur -- I went to open up my lightroom library to export some images and my entire drive had been corrupted. I tried several image editing tools to try restoring the data but none of them worked! The drive was a 500gb disk that was almost full! There one day, gone the next -- a full year (2007) of work!
Fortunately, I put a backup strategy in place a long time ago and had 3 copies of the data stored in different locations so my data was safe :-)
I'm posting this for two reasons. The most important: to remind you to take some time today to backup your important files! Second: to assure my clients that your files are safe with me! My backup plan is pretty solid and unless there is some kind of a disaster that takes out the West Coast, we're covered.
If you are looking for a good backup solution, let me know and I can send some resources.
I'm sitting in the Boise Airport right now in the B17 terminal where Southwest has obviously been listening to travelers! They have set up an entire section with nice leather chairs, each with it's own power outlet... even USB power for charging iPods! The entire airport has free wi-fi, although I refuse to connect to public hot spots (instead I use my Sprint broadband connect card). In the midst of pretty dissapointing customer service in the airline industry, I've found an oasis in which to wait out my delayed flight :-)
I can't make this stuff up...
